Over the years Canford Sports has provided programs and facilities for area youths, especially for families that cannot afford to participate in the more structured sports. This program is called Kanford Kids and our motto is “Just Let Them Play”.
Kanford Kids operates with the cooperation of area schools, churches, social workers and the Police Community Services branch.
Kanford Kids focuses on two sports: soccer in spring and sponge hockey in winter. Again this season, we will be using facilities at the Lord Roberts Community Centre in the lower Fort Rouge area of Winnipeg. Our immediate focus is on youths & families in this area however, we will also be welcoming kids from McDonald Youth Services, Boys & Girls Club and Big Brothers & Sisters.
Canford is always grateful for the donation of sports equipment, particularly youth hockey or bike helmets. Other items that we appreciate are mitts (even single ones), scarfs, touques, color jerseys, sponge hockey shoes and hockey sticks (adult sticks can easily be cut down to size for children).
The schedule for drop-ins will be announced by mid-November. Programming begins as soon as the ice is in and continues until the ice is gone.
Our free youth drop inis becoming so popular that we have had to erect an additional rink! No kids will be turned away!
